Cette deuxième édition contient en fait 105 illustrations, dont chacune est commentée par une note que j’ai rédigée à l’attention des collectionneurs du Paris d’AKAGI. Certains m’ont dit que ce recueil pouvait constituer un très bon guide sur Paris, mais mon idée n’est pas du tout de faire un guide ! Je conçois ce recueil davantage comme les mémoires d’un Japonais à Paris en 2014, retracées sous forme de 100 vues de la capitale. La traduction peut être en anglais ou en français, mais je souhaite que l’original en japonais figure en dessous.</p> This book contains my special selection of 100 views of Paris in lithography. The selection was made by myself from my completed works and may therefore be regarded as my specially edited private collection. I have almost 500 original drawings of Paris after my 40 years of work. The 100 prints I selected for this book were taken from over 100 prints of those 500 drawings. I did not print them especially for this book like Hiroshige’s “100 famous views of Edo” or Hokusai’s “100 famous views of Mount Fuji” so the title of this book may not be appropriate perhaps. This book is rather like a series of notes stating why I printed these particular views. A l’oeil nu, sa partie supérieure ne semble pas très bien proportionnée. On m’a appris que la bonne taille d’un réverbère est de neuf mètres de haut. J’ai obtenu une réplique du catalogue présentant les réverbères de la plus ancienne société française de fonte, située à Durenne et fondée en 1831. Selon le catalogue, il existe plus de 150 variétés de réverbères fabriqués depuis le 19e siècle. Auparavant, ils étaient faits à la main. Un système de pièces modulables permet la fabrication d’une grande variété de styles et d’adaptation dans des lieux différents. C’est ce qui favorise leur succès. De tels réverbères sont installés à Paris et dans toute la France. On les retrouve aussi en Grèce, en Belgique, en Egypte et dans les anciennes colonies. La plupart du temps, lorsque l’on en voit un, on les remarque à cause de cette forme nostalgique imaginée par cette société. Aujourd’hui, les autoroutes sont bordées de réverbères modernes, mais, à Paris, ils ont gardé ce style d’époque qui leur donne cet aspect si caractéristique. C’est afin de montrer une vue de jour et de nuit que j’en ai dessiné trois, mais cela ne veut pas dire que ces réverbères sont côte à côte comme des arbres. These are small streetlights on a little street called the Rue Edouard-Quénu. They look a bit overbalanced because of the big lantern but they look fine since they are 9 meters high in accordance with standards.I got a reprint of a streetlight catalogue from the company A. Durenne, established in 1831, which is said to be the oldest iron casting company in France and there are about 150 kinds of lights from the 19th century. They were handmade until then but they began to be produced in pieces so that they could be assembled to fit anywhere so they became widespread. They were used not only in Paris and its satellite towns but also exported to the old French colonies, Greece, Belgium, Egypt and other countries so when you come across streetlights chances are they are derived from this company’s designs. Nowadays, more modern lights have been appearing along the highways but in the city itself many old styles can be seen creating the feel of Paris.
