Cette deuxième édition contient en fait 105 illustrations, dont chacune est commentée par une note que j’ai rédigée à l’attention des collectionneurs du Paris d’AKAGI. Certains m’ont dit que ce recueil pouvait constituer un très bon guide sur Paris, mais mon idée n’est pas du tout de faire un guide ! Je conçois ce recueil davantage comme les mémoires d’un Japonais à Paris en 2014, retracées sous forme de 100 vues de la capitale. La traduction peut être en anglais ou en français, mais je souhaite que l’original en japonais figure en dessous.</p> This book contains my special selection of 100 views of Paris in lithography. The selection was made by myself from my completed works and may therefore be regarded as my specially edited private collection. I have almost 500 original drawings of Paris after my 40 years of work. The 100 prints I selected for this book were taken from over 100 prints of those 500 drawings. I did not print them especially for this book like Hiroshige’s “100 famous views of Edo” or Hokusai’s “100 famous views of Mount Fuji” so the title of this book may not be appropriate perhaps. This book is rather like a series of notes stating why I printed these particular views. Cette grande école forme les hauts fonctionnaires. Elle a été créée en 1794 sous l’impulsion du gouvernement de la Révolution française et dépend du ministre de la Défense. En France, la plupart des cadres supérieurs sont issus de cette école, c’est un système équivalent à celui de l’université de Tokyo, mais en plus important. C’est une école difficile d’accès : il faut d’abord réussir le concours d’entrée, mais, une fois admis, on touche directement un salaire. En France, les frais d’études universitaires sont peu élevés et les élèves peuvent faire des études sans trop dépenser, ce qui est inimaginable pour les Japonais. Mais attention, les frais d’études dans les écoles techniques privées sont extrêmement coûteux. En octobre 1976, l’École Polytechnique a déménagé en banlieue parisienne où ses laboratoires sont désormais installés. René Descartes (1596-1650), célèbre pour sa formule «Je pense, donc je suis», est le père de la philosophie contemporaine française. Les restaurants pour étudiants portent le nom de ses ouvrages comme «La méthode». On arrive sur une ancienne avenue qui menait à Rome, où on trouve de vieilles maisons datant de trois cents ans et des petits restaurants de cuisine ethnique qui attirent étudiants et touristes. Pendant son séjour à Paris, Ernest Hemingway vivait dans ce quartier. Son expérience est racontée dans ses ouvrages comme «Paris est une fête». L’ambiance de ce quartier est l’ambiance parisienne typique dont rêvent les intellectuels américains. C’est quelque peu différent de l’ambiance des Japonais qui, eux, passent leur temps à faire du shopping. This plaza is in front of the old main gate of the famous Ecole Polytechnique. This university was founded by the French Revolutionary government in 1794 and managed by the Minister of Defence for officer training. Almost all French officers graduate from this school and this system seems to go beyond that of Tokyo University in Japan. It is very difficult to enter because you must enter an ordinary university beforehand in order to prepare to sit for the entrance examinations but upon entering students get paid. Tuition for national university organizations are reasonable and people can study without too much burden, so Japanese people are surprised. On the other hand, tuition for privately owned schools to learn practical skills are extremely high. This school was moved to the suburbs in October 1976 and newly established research centres occupy the vacated university. René Descartes (1596–1650) is the founder of modern philosophy renowned for saying “I think, therefore I am.” Descartes came up with his Méthode (as in Le Dicours de la Méthode) and you can find a cheap restaurant for students named after this. Because the street was on the route from Paris to Rome in the past, 200 to 300 year-old houses and Asian, African, and ethnic restaurants are found here so tourists are also fond of this vicinity.Earnest Hemingway lived in the same street or near this place when he lived in Paris so this area was enshrined in the phrase “Paris is a moveable feast”. Well-educated and cultured American yearn to visit here.
