Cette deuxième édition contient en fait 105 illustrations, dont chacune est commentée par une note que j’ai rédigée à l’attention des collectionneurs du Paris d’AKAGI. Certains m’ont dit que ce recueil pouvait constituer un très bon guide sur Paris, mais mon idée n’est pas du tout de faire un guide ! Je conçois ce recueil davantage comme les mémoires d’un Japonais à Paris en 2014, retracées sous forme de 100 vues de la capitale. La traduction peut être en anglais ou en français, mais je souhaite que l’original en japonais figure en dessous.</p> This book contains my special selection of 100 views of Paris in lithography. The selection was made by myself from my completed works and may therefore be regarded as my specially edited private collection. I have almost 500 original drawings of Paris after my 40 years of work. The 100 prints I selected for this book were taken from over 100 prints of those 500 drawings. I did not print them especially for this book like Hiroshige’s “100 famous views of Edo” or Hokusai’s “100 famous views of Mount Fuji” so the title of this book may not be appropriate perhaps. This book is rather like a series of notes stating why I printed these particular views. En 1171, alors que le Japon connaissait une période faste avec la famille Heike, le premier collège est autorisé à Paris et le statut d’étudiant est reconnu par le roi. En 1215, voit le jour à Paris la première université et en 1253 la Sorbonne est inaugurée. On l’appelle Quartier Latin, parce que les étudiants qui y vivaient parlaient latin, la langue internationale et officielle de l’époque. 750 ans plus tard, après les manifestations de mai 68, les universités sont réparties dans Paris afin de ne plus être concentrées dans un seul quartier. Aujourd’hui, elles sont un peu partout dans Paris et je ne sais plus à quoi correspondent les universités, car elles sont désignées par un chiffre. Sous le quai Saint-Michel on trouve le métro et les trains, et juste au-dessus, la librairie Gibert Jeune qui existe depuis 1884. A l’origine, c’était un des bouquinistes que l’on voit avec ces boîtes vertes installées en bord de Seine, quai Saint-Michel. Il rencontre un tel succès qu’il devient cette grande librairie, tenue encore aujourd’hui par la même famille. Très connue en France, elle gère 20 % des manuels scolaires des Parisiens et 30 % des étudiants d’université s’y fournissent. The students’ quarter on the left bank of the Seine is called the Latin Quarter. In 1171, when the Taira clan was in its heyday, the first college (seminary) was permitted in Paris and the King acknowledged the social status of students. The first university was founded in Paris in 1215. The Sorbonne Seminary opened in 1253. It was called the Latin Quarter because all the schools and students concentrated in this area taught and spoke Latin, an official in Paris at that time as well as being an international language. 750 years later, since the riots and May revolution of 1968, universities gradually became dispersed so that they would not all collected in one area. Now they are located here and there and cannot point where they are as only numbers were displayed in front of the building.Beneath the road along the bank is a railroad line with Saint-Michel station, while above ground the Gibert Jeune bookstore has been running since 1884 and he is said to have been one of the Bouquinistes prior to that, placing flower boxes along the banks of the Seine. He became very successful and started a big bookstore which his family continues to this day.
