Cette deuxième édition contient en fait 105 illustrations, dont chacune est commentée par une note que j’ai rédigée à l’attention des collectionneurs du Paris d’AKAGI. Certains m’ont dit que ce recueil pouvait constituer un très bon guide sur Paris, mais mon idée n’est pas du tout de faire un guide ! Je conçois ce recueil davantage comme les mémoires d’un Japonais à Paris en 2014, retracées sous forme de 100 vues de la capitale. La traduction peut être en anglais ou en français, mais je souhaite que l’original en japonais figure en dessous.</p> This book contains my special selection of 100 views of Paris in lithography. The selection was made by myself from my completed works and may therefore be regarded as my specially edited private collection. I have almost 500 original drawings of Paris after my 40 years of work. The 100 prints I selected for this book were taken from over 100 prints of those 500 drawings. I did not print them especially for this book like Hiroshige’s “100 famous views of Edo” or Hokusai’s “100 famous views of Mount Fuji” so the title of this book may not be appropriate perhaps. This book is rather like a series of notes stating why I printed these particular views. Que de changements, aujourd’hui, avec tous ces immeubles ! Mon regard a été attiré par ce bâtiment et ses escaliers. J’ai eu envie de le dessiner, et pour cela j’y suis revenu plusieurs fois. Dans ce quartier se trouvait le château de Charonne. En 1624, lors de la Fronde, Louis XIV y a pris position afin d’observer la ligne de front. Au Japon, c’était l’époque où régnait Iemitsu, 3e shogun des Tokugawa. Le château a disparu et la seule trace restante est la dernière résidence d’une des filles de Louis XIV. Le bâtiment a survécu, aujourd’hui dissimulé dans l’enceinte d’un hospice pour personnes âgées. Il a été acheté par un baron royaliste qui l’utilisa comme base arrière au temps de la révolution. La légende raconte que le baron s’en échappa par un passage souterrain, alors que ces camarades étaient guillotinés. Il en resta le propriétaire jusqu’en 1802. Aujourd’hui, les jardins de cet ancien château sont devenus un parc situé dans la même rue. Une rumeur dit qu’un trésor y est caché depuis 1714 et certains sont toujours à sa recherche. Cette histoire, que j’ai trouvée dans le livre La chasse au trésor de Paris, est une des raisons pour lesquelles Paris ne cesse d’éveiller ma curiosité. This once rural district has been incorporated into the City of Paris. Now these houses are being demolished rapidly and new residential buildings are changing the scenery. I was interested in the houses with stairs along the old main road and wanted to draw them, so I visited there.In the past there was the castle of Charonne and at the time of La Fronde in France, Louis XIV encamped there to inspect the battle lines. It was the period of Iemitsu Tokugawa, the third shogun. Though the castle vanished without trace, one of Louis XIV’s daughters built a retreat in the premises. The building still remains now as an old people’s home. The baron who bought it belonged to the Royalists and was based here for campaigns against the French Revolution and eventually many people were captured and executed by guillotine. Only this baron escaped by using an underground passage and owned the retreat until 1802. Rumour has it that in 1774 he hid treasure in the garden of the old castle, now a park on the street parallel to this one, and I hear some people are still looking for it.
