Cette deuxième édition contient en fait 105 illustrations, dont chacune est commentée par une note que j’ai rédigée à l’attention des collectionneurs du Paris d’AKAGI. Certains m’ont dit que ce recueil pouvait constituer un très bon guide sur Paris, mais mon idée n’est pas du tout de faire un guide ! Je conçois ce recueil davantage comme les mémoires d’un Japonais à Paris en 2014, retracées sous forme de 100 vues de la capitale. La traduction peut être en anglais ou en français, mais je souhaite que l’original en japonais figure en dessous.&lt;/p&gt;</text>

                <text>This book contains my special selection of 100 views of Paris in lithography. The selection was made by myself from my completed works and may therefore be regarded as my specially edited private collection. I have almost 500 original drawings of Paris after my 40 years of work. The 100 prints I selected for this book were taken from over 100 prints of those 500 drawings. I did not print them especially for this book like Hiroshige’s “100 famous views of Edo” or Hokusai’s “100 famous views of Mount Fuji” so the title of this book may not be appropriate perhaps. This book is rather like a series of notes stating why I printed these particular views. I hope this book will be appreciated by those who collect my work.</text>

              <text>Au 19e siècle, le canal était un indispensable moyen de transport de marchandises. De nos jours, elles sont transportées par de gros camions sur les autoroutes. C’est grâce aux canaux et aux fleuves que l’Europe a relié tous ses pays entre eux. Aujourd’hui, les péniches arborant des drapeaux de différents pays circulent sur le canal pour transporter du pétrole ou du gravier. Les mariniers y vivent avec leur famille. Lorsqu’un bateau arrive, le pont se lève pour le laisser passer, puis il redescend pour laisser circuler les voitures. Ce pont a été construit entre 1884 et 1885, âge d’or des constructions en structures métalliques. Aux alentours, de nombreux débarcadères donnaient sur des entrepôts, mais depuis peu, ces espaces de stockage ont été transformés pour accueillir des ateliers d’artiste et des logements à loyer modéré. Avant la Deuxième Guerre mondiale, des photographes avaient immortalisé cet endroit, et c’est grâce à eux que l’on a pu retrouver de nombreux témoignages nostalgiques de Paris. Ces quatre grosses colonnes métalliques surmontées de roues ont éveillé ma curiosité.</text>

              <text>Though large trucks carry goods nowadays, two centuries ago canals provided the main means of moving freight. Back then the interior of most of Europe was served by interconnected canals and rivers. Peculiar freight ships called Péniche would hoist each country’s flag, carrying gravel, oil or whatever with the crew and their families on board. You may be wondering what the four steel pillars with large wheels on the top are: they are the mechanism by which a bridge allowing vehicles to pass over the canal may be raised to clear the waterway for shipping. This equipment was forged during the golden age of steel manufacturing from 1884-1885 by a company in the north of France. Many warehouses line the docks around the canal but these days they are being converted into artists’ workshops and tenement houses which has changed this area considerably.Cameramen working here before World War II documented this vicinity with black-and-white photographs so this place is often remembered fondly as Parisian scenery of a bygone age.</text>

              <text>今はハイウエーで大型トラックで運んでしまうが、二世紀前十九世紀は、運河が重要な貨物輸送の手段だった。それでヨーロッパ中の内陸が、運河と河川を利用してつながっていて、今でもペニッシュと呼ばれる独特の貨物船が、各国の旗を立てて運航し、砂利とか石油など運び、船上で家族も暮らしている水上生活者である。　大きな車輪が上に付いた、四本の鉄柱は、何だろうかと目につくが、船が来ると橋を吊り上げて船を通し、普段は道路で車が走っている運河横断橋である。一八八四年から八五年にかけて作られた鉄骨工事全盛の頃の工作で、フランス北部の会社で作られた。　周りの運河は、船着場になっていて倉庫が沢山並んでいたが、近年は芸術家のアトリエや公団住宅に改造され、すっかりこの界隈も変わってきている。　第二次大戦前のパリを撮影するカメラマンたちが、白黒写真で好んでこの界隈を取り上げているので、ノスタルジックなパリ風景になって、記憶されていることも多い。</text>
