Cette deuxième édition contient en fait 105 illustrations, dont chacune est commentée par une note que j’ai rédigée à l’attention des collectionneurs du Paris d’AKAGI. Certains m’ont dit que ce recueil pouvait constituer un très bon guide sur Paris, mais mon idée n’est pas du tout de faire un guide ! Je conçois ce recueil davantage comme les mémoires d’un Japonais à Paris en 2014, retracées sous forme de 100 vues de la capitale. La traduction peut être en anglais ou en français, mais je souhaite que l’original en japonais figure en dessous.</p> This book contains my special selection of 100 views of Paris in lithography. The selection was made by myself from my completed works and may therefore be regarded as my specially edited private collection. I have almost 500 original drawings of Paris after my 40 years of work. The 100 prints I selected for this book were taken from over 100 prints of those 500 drawings. I did not print them especially for this book like Hiroshige’s “100 famous views of Edo” or Hokusai’s “100 famous views of Mount Fuji” so the title of this book may not be appropriate perhaps. This book is rather like a series of notes stating why I printed these particular views. Dans le cadre du développement du RER, la gare ferme le 14 décembre 1969. Elle est remplacée par le nouvel opéra en 1989. Son inauguration, cette année là, constitue l’un des principaux événements du Bicentenaire de la Révolution française. En mars 1990, la première représentation est un opéra de Berlioz intitulé Les Troyens. Durant les vingt années qui ont précédé la construction de l’Opéra, l’ancienne gare servait de lieu d’expositions et de salons. Je venais y dessiner pendant les travaux. Le nouvel Opéra prend le nom d’Opéra Bastille, ce qui entraîne de débaptiser l’Opéra de Paris pour le renommer «Opéra Garnier». Lorsque l’on donne rendez-vous à des touristes, il faut faire attention à ne pas se tromper d’Opéra !Aux pieds de l’Opéra Bastille, la place du même nom avec, en son centre, une colonne surmontée d’un être aux ailes dorées, le Génie de la Bastille. Ce monument est un hommage aux morts de la révolution de 1830 qui dura trois jours, du 27 au 29 juillet, trois jours pendant lesquels les citoyens se sont insurgés et ont chassé le roi et la famille des Bourbons. Les noms des 675 soldats et citoyens ayant perdu la vie durant cette révolution sont gravés sur cette colonne. Sous la place où circulent aujourd’hui les voitures reposent les corps de 196 soldats morts lors de la révolution de 1848 et 504 victimes de la révolution de juillet 1830. En général, c’est de cette place que démarrent les manifestations à caractère politique. There used to be the terminal station of a suburban railway line here but it was closed on December 14th 1969 due to the development of RER (metropolitan rapid-transit railway network), and the new opera house was built as the main attraction for the bicentenary of the French Revolution in 1989. Its opening performance was “Les Troyens” by Berlioz in March 1990. For 20 years until it was built, the deserted station building was used for trade fairs and exhibitions. Just before the modern opera house with its glass building was completed, I undertook preparatory drawing during the construction. It is called “l’Opéra Bastille” and the old opera house is distinguished by calling it “l’Opéra Garnier.” Those deciding to meet in front of the opera houses need to choose clearly. At its front, the columnar tower in the Place de la Bastille commemorates the time when citizens of Paris revolted for three days on July 27th-29th 1830 to dethrone the king and put an end to the Bourbon Dynasty. The names of 675 dead militiamen are engraved on it and below the ground is the graveyard, cars pass by above. The fallen soldiers of the July Revolution of 1830 (504 bodies) and February Revolution of 1848 (196 bodies) rest there.
