Cette deuxième édition contient en fait 105 illustrations, dont chacune est commentée par une note que j’ai rédigée à l’attention des collectionneurs du Paris d’AKAGI. Certains m’ont dit que ce recueil pouvait constituer un très bon guide sur Paris, mais mon idée n’est pas du tout de faire un guide ! Je conçois ce recueil davantage comme les mémoires d’un Japonais à Paris en 2014, retracées sous forme de 100 vues de la capitale. La traduction peut être en anglais ou en français, mais je souhaite que l’original en japonais figure en dessous.</p> This book contains my special selection of 100 views of Paris in lithography. The selection was made by myself from my completed works and may therefore be regarded as my specially edited private collection. I have almost 500 original drawings of Paris after my 40 years of work. The 100 prints I selected for this book were taken from over 100 prints of those 500 drawings. I did not print them especially for this book like Hiroshige’s “100 famous views of Edo” or Hokusai’s “100 famous views of Mount Fuji” so the title of this book may not be appropriate perhaps. This book is rather like a series of notes stating why I printed these particular views. Lorsque la troupe rencontrait des difficultés financières, elle partait en tournées en Amérique du Nord et du Sud. La situation du monde du spectacle n’a guère changé et, aujourd’hui encore, l’Opéra de Paris est financé aux deux tiers par des subventions publiques, autrement dit grâce aux impôts. C’est la raison pour laquelle les compagnies organisent régulièrement des tournées, comme celles qu’ils font au Japon pour engranger d’autres sources de revenus. Le secteur du théâtre est très loin d’atteindre son autonomie financière. Avec le théâtre Saint-Martin et le Théâtre de l’Ambigu-Comique, ce sont donc trois théâtres qui jouxtent la Porte Saint-Martin sur le boulevard menant à la place de la République. This place was built in 1873 and the well-known actress Sarah Bernhardt was based in and ran it from 1893 to 1899. When the theatre company suffered due to lack of funds, this famous actress held performances all over in North and South America to raise funds and kept it going so there is little difference between the current industry and the past one. Even today, two-thirds of the annual budget for l’Opéra in Paris is financed by cultural subsidies from the country, that is to say the taxpayer. Furthermore, overseas performances including tours to Japan generate periodical annual income which can’t sustain financial independence.While this theatre stands beside the triumphal arch of the Porte Saint-Martin, three theatres stand side by side: this one, Théatre de la Porte Saint-Martin and the Théatre de l’Ambigu. There are theatres here and there beyond the Place de la République, so it used to be a theatre street also called “Le Boulevard du Crime”.Only murder plays were popular enough to attract audiences. Tradition says that once 12,000 people were killed in plays during that day, thus it was so named. Even today, crime drama programs are favoured in France and are broadcast every day.
