Certains m’ont dit que ce recueil pouvait constituer un très bon guide sur Paris, mais mon idée n’est pas du tout de faire un guide ! Je conçois ce recueil davantage comme les mémoires d’un Japonais à Paris en 2014, retracées sous forme de 100 vues de la capitale. La traduction peut être en anglais ou en français, mais je souhaite que l’original en japonais figure en dessous.&lt;/p&gt;</text>

                <text>This book contains my special selection of 100 views of Paris in lithography. The selection was made by myself from my completed works and may therefore be regarded as my specially edited private collection. I have almost 500 original drawings of Paris after my 40 years of work. The 100 prints I selected for this book were taken from over 100 prints of those 500 drawings. I did not print them especially for this book like Hiroshige’s “100 famous views of Edo” or Hokusai’s “100 famous views of Mount Fuji” so the title of this book may not be appropriate perhaps. This book is rather like a series of notes stating why I printed these particular views. I hope this book will be appreciated by those who collect my work.</text>

              <text>J’ai réalisé ce dessin depuis l’immeuble que l’on voit, précédemment, rue Montmartre, en observant à l’arrière, les toits de la rue Saint-Joseph. J’ai trouvé cette vue originale : toutes ces chambres de bonnes minutieusement alignées sur les toits des vieux immeubles de Paris. C’était aussi intéressant de voir cette multitude d’antennes et, déjà à cette époque, à l’arrière du&#13;
bâtiment, les paraboles de l’agence Reuter. On ne peut ignorer les antennes des toits de Paris, toutes orientées vers la Tour Eiffel pour capter les fréquences. C’est une indication visuelle qui permet de comprendre l’orientation des rues. C’est en bas de cette petite rue qu’est né, en 1840, le romancier Emile Zola.</text>

              <text>I drew this work from inside the building to be seen in plate 38 looking at the rooftops of the Rue Saint-Joseph because such lofts being built piecemeal on old rooftops are unusual. To the front is the Reuters building and it was also interesting to see big parabolic antennas and many other antennas behind the building. The antennas on Paris rooftops cannot be ignored because they are always aligned with the Eiffel Tower in order to receive signals, thus betraying the streets’ angles since they cannot be inaccurately orientated.The writer Emile Zola was born in this narrow street in 1840.</text>

              <text>モンマルトル通りに描いた作品の、建物の中から、裏側のサンジョセフ通りの屋根を望んで描いた。古い屋根の上に継ぎ足しては、チマチマと屋根裏小部屋を作って積み上げて暮らしている景色が、珍しかったからだ。表はロイター通信社があって、その裏側で、もうこの頃から大きなパラボラアンテナや、いろいろなアンテナが沢山立っていたのも興味深かった。パリの屋根の上のアンテナは、無視できないもので、必ずエッフェル塔の方向に向けて電波が入るように立てられていたので、このアンテナの方向で、道の角度も分かるのだから、いい加減には誤魔化せない要素なのである。　一八四〇年、作家のエミール・ゾラが、この下の細い通りで生れている。</text>
