Cette deuxième édition contient en fait 105 illustrations, dont chacune est commentée par une note que j’ai rédigée à l’attention des collectionneurs du Paris d’AKAGI. Certains m’ont dit que ce recueil pouvait constituer un très bon guide sur Paris, mais mon idée n’est pas du tout de faire un guide ! Je conçois ce recueil davantage comme les mémoires d’un Japonais à Paris en 2014, retracées sous forme de 100 vues de la capitale. La traduction peut être en anglais ou en français, mais je souhaite que l’original en japonais figure en dessous.</p> This book contains my special selection of 100 views of Paris in lithography. The selection was made by myself from my completed works and may therefore be regarded as my specially edited private collection. I have almost 500 original drawings of Paris after my 40 years of work. The 100 prints I selected for this book were taken from over 100 prints of those 500 drawings. I did not print them especially for this book like Hiroshige’s “100 famous views of Edo” or Hokusai’s “100 famous views of Mount Fuji” so the title of this book may not be appropriate perhaps. This book is rather like a series of notes stating why I printed these particular views. Dans ce quartier se côtoyaient de nombreux grossistes en vêtements pour enfants et les transactions ne se faisaient qu’en espèces. Si l’on franchit l’une des nombreuses petites portes donnant sur la rue, on découvre des escaliers tortueux et des couloirs conduisant vers des petits ateliers ou des logements populaires. A l’arrière, il y a bien longtemps, il y avait un terrain vague où s’était installé cet atelier de lithographie.Inauguré en 1840, l’atelier s’est maintenu durant 150 ans, grâce à une technique lithographique novatrice pour l’époque, qui permettait d’imprimer aussi bien des étiquettes que de grandes affiches publicitaires. Mais, avec les progrès technologiques, la technique de lithographie est de moins en moins demandée. Ces dernières années, cet atelier s’est spécialisé essentiellement dans la gravure d’art. En 2003, ployant sous les charges en augmentation perpétuelle, l’entreprise a décidé d’aller s’installer en banlieue. À l’époque, j’étais surpris de voir que, parmi les commandes internationales, certaines venaient de Chine ou de Taiwan. J’ai même vu une demande en provenance du Japon pour réaliser des tirages de l’oeuvre de l’artiste TAKEHISA Yumeji. This is the entrance for the lithograph factory which used to be at 52 rue du Faubourg Saint-Martin. Children’s clothing wholesalers stand side by side around here but if you enter via the small gate you can see consecutive alley stairs, small workplaces and apartments for ordinary people on the stairs. At the dead end of the alley there used to be a long-sustained lithograph printing factory. The factory started in 1840 and continued business for more than 150 years since lithograph was the latest printing technology for image graphics in those times for printing labels and advertisements. However, it came to be used more exclusively by artists in recent years as technology progressed. By 2003 it disappeared into the suburbs after becoming unable to remain in business.
