Cette deuxième édition contient en fait 105 illustrations, dont chacune est commentée par une note que j’ai rédigée à l’attention des collectionneurs du Paris d’AKAGI. Certains m’ont dit que ce recueil pouvait constituer un très bon guide sur Paris, mais mon idée n’est pas du tout de faire un guide ! Je conçois ce recueil davantage comme les mémoires d’un Japonais à Paris en 2014, retracées sous forme de 100 vues de la capitale. La traduction peut être en anglais ou en français, mais je souhaite que l’original en japonais figure en dessous.</p> This book contains my special selection of 100 views of Paris in lithography. The selection was made by myself from my completed works and may therefore be regarded as my specially edited private collection. I have almost 500 original drawings of Paris after my 40 years of work. The 100 prints I selected for this book were taken from over 100 prints of those 500 drawings. I did not print them especially for this book like Hiroshige’s “100 famous views of Edo” or Hokusai’s “100 famous views of Mount Fuji” so the title of this book may not be appropriate perhaps. This book is rather like a series of notes stating why I printed these particular views. Aujourd’hui encore, on retrouve le bâtiment du cabaret les «Deux Marronniers» mentionné dans son roman. Après la Seconde Guerre mondiale, sur ce boulevard, dans une minuscule échoppe, un immigré d’origine maghrébine se hasarde à vendre des parapluies. Rencontrant le succès, il ouvre un magasin discount sous le nom de Tati. Il a tôt fait de racheter l’immeuble des Deux Marronniers pour le transformer en une annexe spécialisée dans les articles de cuisine et de meubles. Dans les années 70, tous les regards se tournent vers lui en apprenant qu’il a été invité à dîner par le Président de la République, en tant que l’un des plus gros contribuables de France. Dans les années 2000, son fils reprend les rênes de l’entreprise, mais les affaires ralentissent, la rentabilité n’est plus la même. Sa stratégie de diversification l’amène à investir dans trop de secteurs différents. Il va même jusqu’à posséder ses propres bijouteries. L’enseigne Tati a survécu, mais l’entreprise a été rachetée par le groupe Gifi. C’est typiquement le même sort qu’a connu le groupe japonais Daiei... Plus à l’est, on arrive sur une zone où s’étendait autrefois un fameux vignoble qui a donné son nom au quartier : La Goutte d’Or. Aujourd’hui, c’est un quartier où vivent de nombreux immigrés d’origine africaine aux vêtements colorés et où l’on trouve une multitude de boutiques. En poursuivant encore plus à l’est, et au-delà des viaducs de la gare du Nord et de l’Est, on parvient sur un des lieux de rendez-vous des trafiquants de drogue. Malgré des loyers modérés, ce n’est pas un quartier conseillé pour habiter, ni pour installer son entreprise. Paris est une ville où les différences entre classes sociales sont très marquées en fonction du lieu de résidence. The east side of Montmartre hill is a working class people’s district and the novel “L’Assommoir” by Emile Zola was set in this town. Zola mentions a cabaret called “des Marronniers” in the book which has been in this town since old times. After World War II an immigrant from Algeria sold cheap umbrellas cheap on a street stall around here and achieved huge success. He then opened a massive discount shop called Tati selling apparel. This shop brought more success so he expanded once more to sell kitchenware, furniture and other goods. The founder became a popular topic of conversation when he was invited to a dinner party by the president after becoming the highest taxpayer in the 1970s. However, in 2000, the person who took over from the founder expanded the business too much in various areas, even opening a jewellery shop. Business did not go well and, worse still, some shops were forced to close. The business name carries on today but it is now run by non-family third parties.The district east of here used to be famous for vineyards and was called “Goutte d’or.” Many houses were built since and mainly African immigrants moved in. The area is filled with bright primary colours, shops with African clothes and goods. The area around the North station, the East station and their railway track and guard, and further east is known as “drug heaven.” Rent is cheap but it is better not to choose to live in this area: people keep you at arm’s length in social circles and especially in business.
