Cette deuxième édition contient en fait 105 illustrations, dont chacune est commentée par une note que j’ai rédigée à l’attention des collectionneurs du Paris d’AKAGI. Certains m’ont dit que ce recueil pouvait constituer un très bon guide sur Paris, mais mon idée n’est pas du tout de faire un guide ! Je conçois ce recueil davantage comme les mémoires d’un Japonais à Paris en 2014, retracées sous forme de 100 vues de la capitale. La traduction peut être en anglais ou en français, mais je souhaite que l’original en japonais figure en dessous.</p> This book contains my special selection of 100 views of Paris in lithography. The selection was made by myself from my completed works and may therefore be regarded as my specially edited private collection. I have almost 500 original drawings of Paris after my 40 years of work. The 100 prints I selected for this book were taken from over 100 prints of those 500 drawings. I did not print them especially for this book like Hiroshige’s “100 famous views of Edo” or Hokusai’s “100 famous views of Mount Fuji” so the title of this book may not be appropriate perhaps. This book is rather like a series of notes stating why I printed these particular views. De l’autre côté de ce mur d’enceinte, on n’appliquait pas les taxes en vigueur dans la ville de Paris. Le quartier était très animé grâce à une multitude de troquets où l’on pouvait boire pour pas cher de l’alcool détaxé. Il rejoint l’enceinte de Paris lors de l’élargissement de la ville effectué par Napoléon III. Si aujourd’hui le quartier est l’un des les plus animés de Paris, truffé de marchés, c’est parce qu’à l’origine, à la sortie de ces remparts, se trouvaient déjà des marchés et des bars. Le 1er mai 1889, sur les lieux de l’ancienne Porte blanche, nait le Moulin rouge, célèbre pour ses affiches réalisées par Toulouse-Lautrec. Cet endroit a connu un immense succès. C’est lors de l’Exposition universelle qui a vu la construction de la tour Eiffel, qu’est né le premier cabaret proposant du French cancan. Malgré quelques changements de mise en scène, le spectacle est toujours à l’affiche.Au 21e siècle, ce sont les touristes chinois qui font le succès du lieu. On dit qu’ils représentent les deux tiers de sa clientèle. Je me souviens de l’époque où la clientèle était constituée d’agriculteurs des coopératives japonaises qu’on obligeait à porter cravate pour assister au spectacle. On pouvait d’ailleurs en louer une à l’entrée. Hélas, aujourd’hui, les clients en chemise tahitienne sont acceptés. Je suis surpris de ce changement. Along the main street just before you get to Montmartre hill are the ruins of the city wall which was built just before the French Revolution started. Outside the city wall was quiet countryside and people enjoyed cheap alcohol at tax-free bars so it was popular and crowded. In 1860, under Napoleon III, the area of Paris was expanded so more land was absorbed into the city. Today, market stalls in bustling places are seen in different parts of Paris. Many of these markets started outside the wall, before the area became part of the city, as popular markets and bars.A place where Blanche Wall’s gate once stood was a cabaret called “Moulin Rouge” which enjoyed huge success. It was made world famous in the posters of Toulouse Lautrec. It started business on 1st May 1889, contemporary with the Paris Expo for which the Eiffel Tower was also erected. At Moulin Rouge very interesting and creative shows were put on and the cancan dance was first performed here. In the 21st century it became very popular with Chinese tourists: about 60% of visitors today are said to be Chinese. I remember when this place was very popular with the Japanese Agricultural Association’s travelling groups, not long ago. At the entrance, ties could be borrowed by those who had no tie since wearing them was compulsory.
