Cette deuxième édition contient en fait 105 illustrations, dont chacune est commentée par une note que j’ai rédigée à l’attention des collectionneurs du Paris d’AKAGI. Certains m’ont dit que ce recueil pouvait constituer un très bon guide sur Paris, mais mon idée n’est pas du tout de faire un guide ! Je conçois ce recueil davantage comme les mémoires d’un Japonais à Paris en 2014, retracées sous forme de 100 vues de la capitale. La traduction peut être en anglais ou en français, mais je souhaite que l’original en japonais figure en dessous.</p> This book contains my special selection of 100 views of Paris in lithography. The selection was made by myself from my completed works and may therefore be regarded as my specially edited private collection. I have almost 500 original drawings of Paris after my 40 years of work. The 100 prints I selected for this book were taken from over 100 prints of those 500 drawings. I did not print them especially for this book like Hiroshige’s “100 famous views of Edo” or Hokusai’s “100 famous views of Mount Fuji” so the title of this book may not be appropriate perhaps. This book is rather like a series of notes stating why I printed these particular views. Title A name given to the resource Rue du Chevalier de la Barre / In Montmartre, rue du Chevalier-de-la-Barre / モンマルトルにて、シュバリエー・ド・ラ・バール通り Description An account of the resource Jusqu’au 19e siècle, la colline de Montmartre se situait au nord de l’ancienne couronne parisienne. On n’y trouvait que du bois, des carrières, des vignobles et quelques fermes. C’était un village peu habité. Aujourd’hui, cela paraît inimaginable, tant le quartier s’est empli d’immeubles résidentiels. Les terrains étaient peu coûteux, car ils se situaient à flanc de coteaux. Ce sont les ouvriers et les artistes qui ont commencé à y construire leurs maisons. Lorsqu’on se tient devant le Sacré-Cœur, la vue sur Paris est extraordinaire ! Cela fait seulement une centaine d’années que le quartier a émergé, beaucoup de bâtiments sont d’origine et ont été conservés sans être modifiés par la modernisation. Les touristes à la recherche de cette ambiance typique du vieux Paris ne manquent pas de visiter ce quartier. Plus particulièrement le dimanche où l’on observe un tel défilé incessant de cars de touristes dans la rue principale que j’en ai mal à la tête. Je retrouve mon plaisir, le soir, lorsque je regarde les lampadaires allumés sur les escaliers qui se cachent entre les bâtiments. J’ai l’impression d’être dans un autre monde. C’est pour cela que les artistes, comme les touristes aiment se promener dans ce quartier. L’un des chefs d’œuvre d’Utrillo représente «L’impasse Cottin», cet escalier, vu d’en bas. Je l’ai dessiné vu d’en-haut. Montmartre hill used to be in the northern suburbs of Paris until the 19th century. Today, the area is a busy residential area but then it had by a copse, a quarry, vineyards, and a few farm houses: it was certainly not an area for people to live. It is a reasonably inexpensive area nowadays as it is quite hilly. Therefore, some workers and artists started to build houses and live in this area. Windmills, a leather factory which created unpleasant smells and quarries were also seen.Looking out over Paris from Basilique du Sacré Coeur is fantastic. It was about 100 years ago when the basilica was built so we can see houses from that time. It is one of the most popular landmarks for tourists who want to feel nostalgic about old Paris and the state of the lives of ordinary people. Many buses carry tourists here, especially on Sunday afternoons, causing busy traffic which upsets the locals. It has a totally different side in the back streets and at night: you wouldn’t believe you were in Paris.
