Cette deuxième édition contient en fait 105 illustrations, dont chacune est commentée par une note que j’ai rédigée à l’attention des collectionneurs du Paris d’AKAGI. Certains m’ont dit que ce recueil pouvait constituer un très bon guide sur Paris, mais mon idée n’est pas du tout de faire un guide ! Je conçois ce recueil davantage comme les mémoires d’un Japonais à Paris en 2014, retracées sous forme de 100 vues de la capitale. La traduction peut être en anglais ou en français, mais je souhaite que l’original en japonais figure en dessous.</p> This book contains my special selection of 100 views of Paris in lithography. The selection was made by myself from my completed works and may therefore be regarded as my specially edited private collection. I have almost 500 original drawings of Paris after my 40 years of work. The 100 prints I selected for this book were taken from over 100 prints of those 500 drawings. I did not print them especially for this book like Hiroshige’s “100 famous views of Edo” or Hokusai’s “100 famous views of Mount Fuji” so the title of this book may not be appropriate perhaps. This book is rather like a series of notes stating why I printed these particular views. À l’époque de Louis XIII, au milieu du 17e siècle, un spéculateur immobilier, comme il en existe partout, à toutes les époques, a l’autorisation de construire un pont sur cette île. Ce spéculateur reçoit la permission de réaliser sur l’îlot des résidences en pierre blanche, toutes semblables, à la manière d’un lotissement. Au 19e siècle, il fallait payer pour traverser ce pont, ceci afin d’empêcher les étrangers d’y accéder. C’est ainsi que ces résidences préservent leur standing et dégagent un charme exceptionnel qui attire les touristes. Ils s’y promènent en faisant du shopping dans les boutiques aux façades pittoresques de la rue principale. Les résidences du 18e, aux pièces bien plus spacieuses que celles d’aujourd’hui et aux plafonds hauts avec poutres apparentes, ont donné à l’île le nom de «bateau blanc flottant sur la Seine». Le quartier entretient une image désuète et pittoresque qui attire touristes et Parisiens. Ils aiment y flâner en regardant les façades et les vitrines, y croiser parfois une grande actrice ou un ancien président de la République. This island used to be called ‘duel island.’ In the mid 17th century, in the reign of Louis XIII, an estate agency requested permission to build a bridge to this island as well as houses for sale. The company built fancy houses with the all walls painted white. Even in mid 19th century there was a toll for crossing the bridge and this helped to maintain the exclusive status of this island. Tourists love its special atmosphere so when they visit Paris they come here to walk around. Also, the old-fashioned shops along the central street are attractive to them. No wonder the island is called “a white ship for tourists.” The houses on this island are from the 18th century so the beamed ceilings are very high and room sizes are different from today’s designs.
