Cette deuxième édition contient en fait 105 illustrations, dont chacune est commentée par une note que j’ai rédigée à l’attention des collectionneurs du Paris d’AKAGI. Certains m’ont dit que ce recueil pouvait constituer un très bon guide sur Paris, mais mon idée n’est pas du tout de faire un guide ! Je conçois ce recueil davantage comme les mémoires d’un Japonais à Paris en 2014, retracées sous forme de 100 vues de la capitale. La traduction peut être en anglais ou en français, mais je souhaite que l’original en japonais figure en dessous.</p> This book contains my special selection of 100 views of Paris in lithography. The selection was made by myself from my completed works and may therefore be regarded as my specially edited private collection. I have almost 500 original drawings of Paris after my 40 years of work. The 100 prints I selected for this book were taken from over 100 prints of those 500 drawings. I did not print them especially for this book like Hiroshige’s “100 famous views of Edo” or Hokusai’s “100 famous views of Mount Fuji” so the title of this book may not be appropriate perhaps. This book is rather like a series of notes stating why I printed these particular views. Title A name given to the resource La Colonne Vendôme / The Vendôme Column / バンドーム広場の塔 Description An account of the resource Si l’on souhaite acheter des bijoux ou des diamants à Paris, on dit que c’est à la Place Vendôme ou sur la rue de la Paix qu’il faut aller. C’est là que toutes les plus grandes marques sont rassemblées. La tour en bronze au centre de la place est décorée d’une frise représentant des scènes de guerre. Elle a été réalisée en coulant 1250 canons de bronze que Napoléon avait saisis aux armées autrichiennes et russes lors de la bataille d’Austerlitz. Au sommet de cette colonne se trouve la statue de Napoléon, drapé du costume d’un empereur russe. Tout comme l’Arc de Triomphe, cette colonne est un hommage à la culture romaine.Cette place est devenue le sujet de nombreuses anecdotes concernant des personnages célèbres. Le film «Ariane» réalisé en 1957, avec Audrey Hepburn, commence par une scène où le père, détective privé, joué par Maurice Chevalier, observe au télescope, du sommet de la tour, une chambre de l’Hôtel Ritz. C’est dans ce grand hôtel de la Place Vendôme que séjournait la princesse d’Angleterre Diana juste avant son fatal accident de voiture. Au premier étage de la bijouterie située en face de l’hôtel, en arrière-plan de ma sérigraphie, se trouve le salon où le pianiste Frédéric Chopin a rendu son dernier soupir. This place and Rape Street which leads to it are famed for jewellery shops. Many shops selling branded jewellery can be found in this area. In the centre of the Place there is a columnar bronze tower, made from the cannons which Napoleon captured at the battle of Austerlitz in 1805. It is said that 1,250 cannons were destroyed and smelted to make it. An illustration of war scenes was engraved on the tower and on top is a statue of Napoleon, dressed as a Roman emperor. Together with the triumphal arch, it is a legacy of Roman culture.In 1957 the film “Love in the Afternoon,” starring Audrey Hepburn, became a big hit; the opening scene sees the private detective, played by Maurice Chevalier, looking into a room in the Ritz Hotel through a telescope from this tower. The Ritz is a first class hotel and the late Princess Diana used to stay here; she left this hotel before her fatal accident. There is a jewellery shop, Chaumet, opposite this hotel which I drew as the background of this work. It is said that Chopin took his last breath on the second floor of the shop.
