Cette deuxième édition contient en fait 105 illustrations, dont chacune est commentée par une note que j’ai rédigée à l’attention des collectionneurs du Paris d’AKAGI. Certains m’ont dit que ce recueil pouvait constituer un très bon guide sur Paris, mais mon idée n’est pas du tout de faire un guide ! Je conçois ce recueil davantage comme les mémoires d’un Japonais à Paris en 2014, retracées sous forme de 100 vues de la capitale. La traduction peut être en anglais ou en français, mais je souhaite que l’original en japonais figure en dessous.</p> This book contains my special selection of 100 views of Paris in lithography. The selection was made by myself from my completed works and may therefore be regarded as my specially edited private collection. I have almost 500 original drawings of Paris after my 40 years of work. The 100 prints I selected for this book were taken from over 100 prints of those 500 drawings. I did not print them especially for this book like Hiroshige’s “100 famous views of Edo” or Hokusai’s “100 famous views of Mount Fuji” so the title of this book may not be appropriate perhaps. This book is rather like a series of notes stating why I printed these particular views. Title A name given to the resource Le 14 juillet, Place de la Concorde / The 14th of July, Place de la Concorde / 七月十四日のコンコルド広場 Description An account of the resource Voici le feu d’artifice du 14 juillet, vu de la terrasse située devant le musée du Jeu de Paume au bout du jardin des Tuileries. L’Obélisque provient du temple de Louxor. Il est l’un des deux exemplaires érigés à l’entrée du temple, l’autre est resté à son emplacement d’origine. Il ne s’agit pas d’un trophée de guerre : il est offert à la France en 1829 par le vice-roi d’Égypte de l’époque. Il a fallu quatre années pour le transporter ! Depuis 1836, il se dresse au centre de la place de la Concorde. Si on me demande quel est le plus ancien monument parisien, ma réponse est sans nul doute cet obélisque. Récemment, la pointe a été coiffée de dorure, afin de le protéger des pluies acides. Dernière lui, au loin, on aperçoit la tour Eiffel construite en 1889. C’est là qu’on tire tous les ans les célèbres feux d’artifice du 14 juillet, qui commémorent la prise de la Bastille et la fin de la monarchie absolue en France. This is a view of fireworks on Bastille Day from the terrace opposite Jewelery de Paume Museum of Art located in the north corner of the Tuileries Gardens.The Obelisk of Luxor Temple was a gift sent to Paris from the Egyptian Viceroy in 1829, not something the French took as a war trophy. It took four years for the obelisk and its 34 centuries of history to arrive in Paris and it is to be found in the centre of Place de la Concorde. It was one of two obelisks which stood on both sides of the temple. The other obelisk can still be seen in its original place in Egypt. If someone asks what the oldest monument in Paris is, surely this is it. Unfortunately the apex of the obelisk has started to disintegrate due to acid rain, so a triangular metal protective piece was added recently. On the other side of this, in the distance, the Eiffel Tower, built in 1889, may be seen.
