Cette deuxième édition contient en fait 105 illustrations, dont chacune est commentée par une note que j’ai rédigée à l’attention des collectionneurs du Paris d’AKAGI. Certains m’ont dit que ce recueil pouvait constituer un très bon guide sur Paris, mais mon idée n’est pas du tout de faire un guide ! Je conçois ce recueil davantage comme les mémoires d’un Japonais à Paris en 2014, retracées sous forme de 100 vues de la capitale. La traduction peut être en anglais ou en français, mais je souhaite que l’original en japonais figure en dessous.</p> This book contains my special selection of 100 views of Paris in lithography. The selection was made by myself from my completed works and may therefore be regarded as my specially edited private collection. I have almost 500 original drawings of Paris after my 40 years of work. The 100 prints I selected for this book were taken from over 100 prints of those 500 drawings. I did not print them especially for this book like Hiroshige’s “100 famous views of Edo” or Hokusai’s “100 famous views of Mount Fuji” so the title of this book may not be appropriate perhaps. This book is rather like a series of notes stating why I printed these particular views. Title A name given to the resource Les Chevaux de Marly / The Marly horses, Champs-Elysées / マルリーの馬 Description An account of the resource En bas des Champs-Élysées, au début des allées faisant face à la place de la Concorde, se dressent deux statues équestres. En arrière-plan, on peut voir le palais bâti par Louis XV. Ce bâtiment héberge aujourd’hui le prestigieux et luxueux Hôtel de Crillon, l’Automobile Club, le siège de la Formule 1 et le très solennel Hôtel de la Marine. L’ambassade des États Unis se trouve à l’angle de la rue. Depuis les attentats terroristes, la sécurité policière a été renforcée et il est plus difficile de s’y balader librement. Si l’on ajoute à cela l’intense trafic automobile autour de la place, il devient compliqué d’apprécier sereinement l’histoire de ce lieu. À l’origine, ces chevaux étaient au nord de la forêt du parc de Versailles, là où Louis XIV avait fait construire un pavillon d’où l’on puisait l’eau de la Seine pour alimenter le château de Versailles. C’est lors de la Révolution française que les deux statues ont été amenées sur cette place. Mais, à la fin du 20e siècle, pour les préserver des pluies acides dues aux gaz d’échappement, le président François Mitterrand les fait déplacer au Louvre où elles sont désormais exposées comme chefs-d'œuvre du 18e siècle. À l’entrée de l’avenue des Champs Élysées, elles sont désormais remplacées par des répliques au titre officiel de «Chevaux retenus par des palefreniers», mieux connues sous le nom «Chevaux de Marly». You can find a pair of horse statues by the entrance of Champs Elysees park when facing towards Champs Elysees from the Place de la Concorde. There is a palace built by Louis XV, the luxury hotel Hotel de Crillion, Automobile Club with the headquarters of F1 and the Department of Navy are found at the back of its opposite side. The Embassy of the USA is on the other corner and it has been forbidden to walk around here with leisure as strict security is enforced by the police as a part of anti-terrorism measures. Moreover the traffic is very heavy there so we cannot appreciate and immerse ourselves in the deep emotion of history.This statue used to be at the waterworks which supplied Louis XIV’s second home, located in the north side of the forest at the Palace of Versailles. This was moved to the current location at the time of the French Revolution. The statue was moved to, and has been kept in, the Louvre Museum in the era of President Mitterrand since the statue had begun to be damaged by acid rain in the 20th century.
