Cette deuxième édition contient en fait 105 illustrations, dont chacune est commentée par une note que j’ai rédigée à l’attention des collectionneurs du Paris d’AKAGI. Certains m’ont dit que ce recueil pouvait constituer un très bon guide sur Paris, mais mon idée n’est pas du tout de faire un guide ! Je conçois ce recueil davantage comme les mémoires d’un Japonais à Paris en 2014, retracées sous forme de 100 vues de la capitale. La traduction peut être en anglais ou en français, mais je souhaite que l’original en japonais figure en dessous.</p> This book contains my special selection of 100 views of Paris in lithography. The selection was made by myself from my completed works and may therefore be regarded as my specially edited private collection. I have almost 500 original drawings of Paris after my 40 years of work. The 100 prints I selected for this book were taken from over 100 prints of those 500 drawings. I did not print them especially for this book like Hiroshige’s “100 famous views of Edo” or Hokusai’s “100 famous views of Mount Fuji” so the title of this book may not be appropriate perhaps. This book is rather like a series of notes stating why I printed these particular views. Créée en 1876, l’enseigne commercialisait des pipes. A partir de 1901, elle propose à la vente des sacs à main en cuir. C’est en 1927 qu’elle ouvre cette grande boutique qui a, depuis, connu trois propriétaires. Elle appartient aujourd’hui à un groupe suisse. J’ai dessiné ce paysage depuis le 2e étage d’un des bureaux de la société Kakiuchi, entreprise japonaise de textile. Il y a quelques années, Kakiuchi, dont l’activité a débuté bien avant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, était une société spécialisée dans l’importation de produits étrangers. À Tokyo, le parc Asukayama-koen a vu le jour grâce à un don de cette entreprise familiale. C’est de ce lieu que l’on peut admirer une magnifique vue sur le mont Tsukuba. Cette vue a été dessiné par Hiroshige et fait partie de sa série “Cent vues d’Edo”. Après guerre, le Japon est en pleine reconstruction. Sans aucune réserve monétaire, le pays cherche à exporter ses produits afin de se procurer des devises en dollars. Chaque année, on évalue les dépenses des entreprises japonaises de commerce international en fonction du chiffre d’affaires de l’année précédente. Plus elles exportent leurs produits en dollars, plus elles peuvent réinvestir ces devises l’année suivante. Kakiuchi disait qu’une entreprise comme la sienne faisait très facilement des bénéfices en vendant une partie de ses droits. Cette société n’existe plus depuis 2002. There is a huge shop called Lancel at the east corner of the Opera Square. It opened its business in 1897 as a pipe shop but it started to sell briefcases and handbags and it has been running this business here since 1927. The owner has changed three times and currently it is owned by a Swiss capital group.On the third floor of this building is the office of a trading company, mainly handling textiles from Japan, called Kakiuchi. I did a drawing of this while looking down from the window of this office. Kakiuchi used to be a wholesale trader of foreign goods. It is said that Kakiuchi donated a part of their estate for Asukayama Park in Tokyo. We can enjoy the view of Mt. Tsukuba from there and it was chosen to be included in “One Hundred Famous View of Edo” by Hiroshige. This company made an effort to promote exports in order to earn some dollars when Japan was struggling to recover from the war. There was a limitation on the handling of foreign currency each year in order to control imports. The amount to be used was determined by the previous year’s trade performance and it was given as a right. According to Kakiuchi, trading companies used to make money easily by selling this right.
