Cette deuxième édition contient en fait 105 illustrations, dont chacune est commentée par une note que j’ai rédigée à l’attention des collectionneurs du Paris d’AKAGI. Certains m’ont dit que ce recueil pouvait constituer un très bon guide sur Paris, mais mon idée n’est pas du tout de faire un guide ! Je conçois ce recueil davantage comme les mémoires d’un Japonais à Paris en 2014, retracées sous forme de 100 vues de la capitale. La traduction peut être en anglais ou en français, mais je souhaite que l’original en japonais figure en dessous.</p> This book contains my special selection of 100 views of Paris in lithography. The selection was made by myself from my completed works and may therefore be regarded as my specially edited private collection. I have almost 500 original drawings of Paris after my 40 years of work. The 100 prints I selected for this book were taken from over 100 prints of those 500 drawings. I did not print them especially for this book like Hiroshige’s “100 famous views of Edo” or Hokusai’s “100 famous views of Mount Fuji” so the title of this book may not be appropriate perhaps. This book is rather like a series of notes stating why I printed these particular views. C’est une commande réalisée par Hector Guimard, un architecte à la mode à l’époque. Entre 1895 et 1925, le 16e arrondissement était une ruche bénéficiant de nombreux investissements dans des projets architecturaux. 400 grands immeubles luxueux ont été construits par 200 architectes de l’époque. Dans la moitié sud du 16e, l’ancien village d’Auteuil est un chemin de promenade idéal pour les amateurs d’Art Nouveau. On y trouve une concentration exceptionnelle de bâtiments réalisés par Guimard. Une fois l’exploitation du nord du 16e achevée, les investissements dans la moitié sud ont pris de l’ampleur. L’architecte Guimard a déployé une énergie très productive. Pour trouver une architecture plus récente, comme celle de Le Corbusier, il faut aller plus au sud. Ses réalisations sont dispersées dans la ville voisine de Boulogne et attirent, elles aussi, les amateurs d’architecture. Selon l’évolution d’un quartier, on y trouve les bâtiments caractéristiques de son époque. This is the Paris residence, completed in 1911, of a man who was successful in the lacemaking industry in northern France. The commission was given to Hector Guimard, an art nouveau architect, which was the all the rage at that time. The 16th arrondissement was undergoing an investment boom in construction and about 400 splendid mansions were built by 200 architects from 1895 to 1925.Around the old village of Auteuil in the southern half of the 16th arrondissement there are quite a few Guimard-designed buildings so it is an attractive area for those who like art nouveau, all the more so because he was also active when the vicinity around here was targeted for development after the northern half was completed. Regarding the newer Le Corbusier designs, his works are located further south and in the neighbouring city of Boulogne; architecture enthusiasts flock there to see them.
