Cette deuxième édition contient en fait 105 illustrations, dont chacune est commentée par une note que j’ai rédigée à l’attention des collectionneurs du Paris d’AKAGI. Certains m’ont dit que ce recueil pouvait constituer un très bon guide sur Paris, mais mon idée n’est pas du tout de faire un guide ! Je conçois ce recueil davantage comme les mémoires d’un Japonais à Paris en 2014, retracées sous forme de 100 vues de la capitale. La traduction peut être en anglais ou en français, mais je souhaite que l’original en japonais figure en dessous.</p> This book contains my special selection of 100 views of Paris in lithography. The selection was made by myself from my completed works and may therefore be regarded as my specially edited private collection. I have almost 500 original drawings of Paris after my 40 years of work. The 100 prints I selected for this book were taken from over 100 prints of those 500 drawings. I did not print them especially for this book like Hiroshige’s “100 famous views of Edo” or Hokusai’s “100 famous views of Mount Fuji” so the title of this book may not be appropriate perhaps. This book is rather like a series of notes stating why I printed these particular views. Title A name given to the resource « Le temps des Cerises » / The “Time of Cherries” / 桜ん坊の実る頃の門 Subject The topic of the resource Porte, Lithographie Description An account of the resource Cela fait plus 35 ans que j’ai emménagé dans cet atelier et, durant cette période, je suis passé quotidiennement devant cette construction qui se trouve à proximité, sans trop y prêter attention. J’imaginais que c’était un bâtiment public fait en briques hollandaises datant du début du 20e siècle. C’est tout récemment que j’ai commencé à m’y intéresser. L’année dernière, on fêtait le centenaire de la loi sur la création des associations en 1901. Cette résidence a été construite par une philanthrope pour les ouvriers, ce qui était rare à l’époque. La Fondation de Madame Jules Lebaudy a été créée en 1899 et a fêté son centenaire en 1989. Après avoir divorcé de son mari qui avait fait fortune dans le sucre, elle créa cette fondation pour améliorer les conditions de vie des plus pauvres en utilisant ses fonds propres et les dédommagements compensatoires de sa séparation. En 1906, cette partie du 15e arrondissement n’étant pas encore développée, elle fait construire des logements collectifs gérés par les ouvriers organisés en syndicat. Nombreux continuent de vivre ici, de génération en génération. L’hôpital Boucicaut a été créé par un couple de commerçants propriétaires de grands magasins. Avec la fortune qu’ils ont accumulée, ils ont construit cet hôpital. On peut dire qu’autrefois, les riches partageaient leurs fortunes pour le bien commun. Cela vient peut-être de l’éducation religieuse qui prônait aux riches le partage comme règle de vie. Je trouve que c’est fondamentalement différent du système d’imposition actuel.Lorsque je regarde ce portail avec attention, j’aperçois une déesse avec une branche de cerisier à la main, face à un couple d’ouvriers. Je réalise que le thème de cette décoration est celui d’une chanson que j’apprécie, Le temps des cerises, notamment interprétée par Yves Montand et qui parle de la commune de Paris de 1871. Certains disent que c’est une branche d’olivier, les habitants n’y prêtent plus trop attention, et le temps passe… 35 years have passed since I moved to my current atelier. This building is near my workshop and I was passing by the front going about my daily business but I was not paying so much attention thinking that it was just one of the public housing complexes made of Dutch bricks in the early 20th century. Recently I have come to be interested in it quite a bit.In 1901 a law was brought onto the books concerning the creation of not-for-profit organisations and some years ago we celebrated its centenary. This apartment complex was also rare at that time since a charitable woman built the house for labourers. The Foundation of Madam Jules Lebaudy was established and its centenary commemoration was 1999. Her husband accrued a fortune from sugar and she divorced him to establish this charitable organization spending both the settlement and her own money for the improvement of poor people’s lives. In the south of the 15th arrondissement, which was an undeveloped district at that time, they built several public housing complexes in 1906, established a workers’ cooperative, made them manage their businesses autonomously and made workers live there. There are many people who have lived there since their father’s day.The Boucicaut Hospital in the same 15th arrondissement was built by a couple who had a successful department store business and donated the money they earned to this cause. Rich people in the past seem to have had a sense of duty and thoughtfulness to maintain a degree of fairness in society. I often feel it is fundamentally different from something like tax reduction strategies.After knowing this fact I examined the gate closely to find a relief sculpture of a goddess holding cherries and the couple of workers. I noticed the theme of the work was my favourite song, The “Time of Cherries” sung by Yves Montand, which was about the Paris Commune workers’ cabinet in 1871.
