Cette deuxième édition contient en fait 105 illustrations, dont chacune est commentée par une note que j’ai rédigée à l’attention des collectionneurs du Paris d’AKAGI. Certains m’ont dit que ce recueil pouvait constituer un très bon guide sur Paris, mais mon idée n’est pas du tout de faire un guide ! Je conçois ce recueil davantage comme les mémoires d’un Japonais à Paris en 2014, retracées sous forme de 100 vues de la capitale. La traduction peut être en anglais ou en français, mais je souhaite que l’original en japonais figure en dessous.</p> This book contains my special selection of 100 views of Paris in lithography. The selection was made by myself from my completed works and may therefore be regarded as my specially edited private collection. I have almost 500 original drawings of Paris after my 40 years of work. The 100 prints I selected for this book were taken from over 100 prints of those 500 drawings. I did not print them especially for this book like Hiroshige’s “100 famous views of Edo” or Hokusai’s “100 famous views of Mount Fuji” so the title of this book may not be appropriate perhaps. This book is rather like a series of notes stating why I printed these particular views. Ce quartier est intégré à la ville de Paris en 1860, lors de la construction de la nouvelle enceinte. C’est pourquoi on trouve encore de vieilles maisons situées à l’extérieur de l’ancienne enceinte. Le café «La route du Beaujolais» laisse à penser qu’on peut y boire du bon vin pas cher et donne envie de s’y arrêter prendre un verre. Aujourd’hui la consommation de vin a diminué, car on doit être responsable au volant et avoir l’esprit clair au travail. Au début du 19e siècle, les ouvriers effectuant de lourdes tâches physiques en consommaient six à huit litres par jour ! Ils en buvaient à la place de l’eau afin de mieux manier la pioche, allant même jusqu’à y ajouter des alcools forts. Je pense que boire un verre de vin est bien meilleur pour la santé que de prendre un médicament. It was incorporated into the city in 1860 and, because it was a new district within the walls, old houses remained along the road, reminiscent of the recreation districts where people could drink cheaply without paying octroi consumption tax outside the old castle walls. The bar named “The Way to Beaujolais” sounds like it has good, cheap, local wine and we feel like knocking back a few drinks.Because we live in an age where we all drive and use electronic devices, people have cut their wine consumption but labourers in the first half of the 19th century drank 6 to 8 litres of wine per day instead of water to lift their spirits and work hard. They would also drink a couple of strong liqueurs to smooth their throats so by comparison nowadays consumption has shrunk.
