Cette deuxième édition contient en fait 105 illustrations, dont chacune est commentée par une note que j’ai rédigée à l’attention des collectionneurs du Paris d’AKAGI. Certains m’ont dit que ce recueil pouvait constituer un très bon guide sur Paris, mais mon idée n’est pas du tout de faire un guide ! Je conçois ce recueil davantage comme les mémoires d’un Japonais à Paris en 2014, retracées sous forme de 100 vues de la capitale. La traduction peut être en anglais ou en français, mais je souhaite que l’original en japonais figure en dessous.</p> This book contains my special selection of 100 views of Paris in lithography. The selection was made by myself from my completed works and may therefore be regarded as my specially edited private collection. I have almost 500 original drawings of Paris after my 40 years of work. The 100 prints I selected for this book were taken from over 100 prints of those 500 drawings. I did not print them especially for this book like Hiroshige’s “100 famous views of Edo” or Hokusai’s “100 famous views of Mount Fuji” so the title of this book may not be appropriate perhaps. This book is rather like a series of notes stating why I printed these particular views. Place de l’Etoile, c’est le nom que donnent les Parisiens à cette place Charles de Gaulle. C’est en 1806, sur ordre de Napoléon, que le projet est initié. L’Empereur n’en verra pas l’achèvement, qui aura lieu en 1836, sous la Restauration. Depuis 1920, l’Arc de Triomphe abrite la tombe du Soldat inconnu qui représente tous les soldats morts pour la France au cours de l’histoire. Depuis 1923, brûle sur cette tombe une flamme éternelle, ravivée chaque soir par d’anciens combattants. Tous les événements importants de Paris sont inaugurés par une cérémonie sous l’Arc de Triomphe, de l’investiture du Président de la République au défilé du 14 juillet, que nous appelons “Fête de Paris” au Japon. L’Arc de Triomphe est un symbole de la France, au même titre que le sanctuaire Yasukuni pour le Japon. Twelve avenues lead to the star-shaped square with a large traffic gyratory, so it is known as “Etoile Star Square” by Parisians. This large monument is found in the centre of the Square. Planning of the building begun in 1806 under the order of Napoleon Bonaparte. Construction was completed in 1836 when the Napoleonic Empire had gone and the restoration of imperial rule was in its stead. Unknown solders have been entombed under the centre of the arch since 1923. Candles never extinguish here since members of reservists’ associations visit l’Arc de Triomphe every evening in turn to pay their respects to those who sacrificed their lives for France. It said that the today’s fishing method called trawling catches almost all fish by using a fishing net which is as large as this Arc de Triomphe and therefore the fish would disappear from the ocean in the near future.
